BCTA to Increase Service from Ambridge to Pittsburgh with Introduction of Route 5

Beginning on September 8, 2025, the BCTA Route 1 will function as an in-county only service. In its place, the Route 5 will now travel from the Ambridge Park & Ride to Downtown Pittsburgh. This change will eliminate the mid-day gap in service that currently exists on the Route 1.

How will it work?

Any passenger traveling to downtown Pittsburgh must now transfer to the Route 5 bus at the Ambridge Park & Ride. As riders board the bus, they will pay the out-of-county fare ($3.25 full fare or $1.60 reduced fare) and request an out-of-county transfer from the driver. At the Park & Ride, the rider will board the Route 5 and provide the driver with their transfer ticket. The rider will not be required to pay a second fare as long as they are transferring from another Beaver County bus. Riders boarding at the Ambridge Park & Ride who are not transferring from another bus will pay the out-of-county fare as they board the bus.

Time Changes

The separation of the Routes 1 and 5 will provide better connections at the Ambridge Park & Ride. All routes will now leave at 55 minutes after the hour. Additionally, the Route 5 will operate from 5:55 AM to 5:55 PM with no interruption in service.

Mary Jo Morandini noted: “BCTA’s Pittsburgh service will operate consistently every hour, providing riders with more opportunities to travel into Pittsburgh while at the same time creating a more convenient transfer system to other routes”.

She also noted that BCTA is currently working on a more simplified fare structure and adding more options for online payment.

Transfer Notice & Fare Reminders

Starting on Monday, August 4, 2025, all riders requiring a transfer must request the transfer as they pay their fare while boarding.

$2.50 fare is applicable to in-county only. If you are transferring to the Route 5 starting on September 8, 2025, you will be required to pay the out-of-county fare ($3.25) as you board and request an out-of-county transfer.

BCTA Day Passes are only valid in Beaver County. Passengers cannot use a BCTA Day Pass outside of the county.
