The Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA) and the Beaver County Rehabilitation Center (BCRC) are partnering to provide employment opportunities to individuals in the disability community.
BCRC provides three participants from the Center every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to assist BCTA’s service workers in cleaning and detailing its fleet of buses. Specifically, the participants detail the interior of the buses including the tasks of sweeping, dusting, and mopping. They wipe down and sanitize all the seats and handrails and have an important job in getting buses ready to serve the rider base for the next day’s service.
Mary Jo Morandini, BCTA’s General Manager noted that “They are a tremendous support team to BCTA’s service workers, and their work is exceptional. We are quite pleased that BCTA can afford the disabled community an opportunity to join the workforce”. She also noted that the participants were provided with their own locker space and on occasion they join the maintenance department for coffee and donuts emphasizing that this is not just work, but the opportunity to share in the BCTA community. She noted that the Authority encourages collaboration between the participants and BCTA employees leading to a fulfilling experience for all involved.
Lesley Hallas, Executive director of BCRC stated: “This collaboration not only provided access to jobs but also highlights the incredible potential of individuals from the disability community when given the right support.”
BCTA reported that a recent customer satisfaction survey shows the Authority’s average score at 4.73 out of 5.0 on interior bus cleanliness.
