BCTA Provides Transportation Services for COVID-19 Vaccinations

The Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA) announced that it will provide free fares for residents travelling to and from COVID vaccination sites.  The free fare program begins on March 1st and extends through the end of the 2021 calendar year.

Passengers riding the fixed route should provide the driver with a document showing the time, date and location of their appointment.  Free transfers will be issued between routes.

The most prominent location for the vaccine is the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC).  CCBC has people stationed near the bus stop in parking lot “B” to provide wheelchair assistance to and from the vaccination site beginning at 7:00 am.  The last vaccination time is currently at 4:30 pm.   BCTA’s fixed route operates approximately hourly during that time span.   BCTA also has numerous stops at various drug stores and other clinics that may soon offer the vaccine.

In addition, BCTA is offering free DART service weekdays and Saturdays for residents in the urban area who do not live along the fixed route and in rural areas of the County Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Riders need to call the DART office at (724) 375-2895 or 1-800-262-0343 twenty-four (24) hours in advance of their trip and provide their vaccine location.  Reservations are taken Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

BCTA’s General Manager stated that “BCTA wants to do its part in getting as many residents vaccinated as soon as possible.  Many people may not have affordable transportation options to get the COVID vaccine and BCTA may be their only alternative”.   She noted that “BCTA takes every precaution to protect its bus riders.  The Authority has a comprehensive system of COVID safety measures which have been in place for almost a year”.

For fixed route schedule information or more information call (724) 728-8600 or visit BCTA’s website at bcta@bcta.com.
